The purpose of this websiteI have been in the law for 12+ years and practised in two countries - the UK and New Zealand. No matter where you go, lawyers have the same reputation: unapproachable, expensive and difficult to communicate with. The purpose of this website is to break the mould and open up law to business owners and employees to give you a better chance of being successful either in your business or your chosen career.So, if you have been googling the internet looking for solutions to your legal problems, then your search will end here. On this website you will find practical information which you can implement.
You'll look at law differently from now onInstead of seeing law as a hindrance, this website will show you how you can use the law to grow your business without getting into trouble. All businesses get the speed wobbles occasionally but the information on this site will teach you how to take the brakes off safely. I call it shark-proofing because if your business is not robust enough to withstand the sharks in the commercial world, it won't grow.I suggest you explore the various sections of this website, and ONLY THEN sign up for the newsletter. In the past I have always needed a lawyer to explain a legal article in simple terms. However, the Approachable Lawyer articles are easy to read and even easier to understand. Starting up in business or feeling that the stress of being in business is too much?

No real need in knowing "how to" if you don't have what it takes to convert the how to into a successful business. Provides a basis for reflection uncovering all the elements and ramifications of self owned business including those that extend beyond the confines of the office.

Boring and over informative – that’s how I would sum up legal articles I have read in the past. I find the Approachable Lawyer articles, on then other hand, more of a tool for my business. They help me with running my business and you could even describe them as coaching me to do things right. Overall, I find them very informative and I like the use of examples which help me apply the principles to my business. I would recommend them to other business owners like me. I wouldn’t normally consider looking at a law firm’s website, but I did subscribe to the Approachable Lawyer website to get the articles because I find them short, easy to understand and topical. Some articles written by lawyers leave you more confused at the end than when you started. They tend to be lectures rather than articles and they deal with small points of law without any advice at the end. Unlike those articles, the Approachable Lawyer articles are great. They are concise, make sense, and give advice worth having to small businesses who don't want to run to their lawyer (and pay lawyer's fees) every time they want something. In my experience, legal articles are difficult to read - they are usually written in a formal style, full of legal jargon and long unwieldy sentences. The Approachable Lawyer articles, on the other hand, come in an easy-to-read format and use realistic scenarios that most people can relate to. As a result, the articles provide enjoyable but informative reading which are easy to assimilate and easy to act upon. I nearly always know of someone who is grappling with the same employment issue and I usually forward these articles to at least one or two clients every time.
